Vernacular Innovation Program(VIP)-NITI Aayog

The Vernacular Innovation Program (VIP) is a groundbreaking initiative launched by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under NITI Aayog. This program aims to break the language barriers that exist in India’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, enabling innovators from various linguistic backgrounds to fully participate in and benefit from the nation’s growing innovation landscape. By doing so, VIP seeks to foster creativity and innovation across India, especially in regions where English is not the primary language of communication.

The Vernacular Innovation Program wants to make innovation and entrepreneurship available to all language groups in India. The government of India recognizes 22 main languages. So, the program will train special teams in each language. These teams will change design thinking and entrepreneurship ideas into their own language. The Qatal Innovation Mission will start this program with the help of language experts, writers, and regional Atal Incubation Centers.

Objectives

• To lower the language barrier for vernacular innovators, enabling them to fully participate in the innovation ecosystem.
• To train Vernacular Task Forces (VTF) in 22 scheduled languages, equipping them with the necessary skills in design thinking and entrepreneurship.
• To enrich the local and national innovation pipelines by incorporating diverse cultural perspectives.
• To provide equal opportunities for vernacular innovators, representing 90% of the Indian population, to showcase their creativity and ideas.

Eligibility Criteria

• Individuals or teams interested in innovation and entrepreneurship.
• Innovators and entrepreneurs from any of the 22 scheduled languages.
• Participants should have a passion for contributing to their local innovation ecosystem.

• Proof of Identity: A government-issued ID proving the applicant’s identity.
• Language Proficiency: Documentation or certification of proficiency in one of the 22 scheduled languages.
• Innovation Proposal: A brief outline of the innovation or entrepreneurial idea that the applicant wishes to develop.
• Educational Background: Certificates or transcripts showcasing the applicant’s educational qualifications.

How to Apply

• Go to the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) website.There, you will find the application form for the Vernacular Innovation Program.
• Fill in the application. Provide your personal information, language skills, and a short summary of your innovative idea.
• Upload the necessary documents as specified in the application form.
• After you’re selected, join the Train-the-Trainers sessions to learn about design thinking and entrepreneurship.
• After you finish the training, join the local and national innovation community. There, you can participate in regular programs and get support from AIM.
